Kristel Vrijghem
Kristel Vrijghem graduated with a Masters degree in law from the Catholic University of Louvain on 9 July 1992, where she obtained an additional degree in criminology in that same year. She was called to the bar in the judicial district of Kortrijk on 1 October 1992 and became a partner with Declerck & Partners on 1 January 2003. In the academic year 2004-2005 she undertook postgraduate studies in company law at the VLEKHO business school in Bruges.
She was secretary of the Young Barristers Association in the judicial district of Kortrijk from 1998 to 2000.
At Declerck Leterme Partners Kristel mostly divides her time between contracting law, real estate (shared ownership, easements, contracts, rental and management of buildings, etc.), architects’ liability and administrative law (urban development and environment). In all these fields she both gives legal advice and represents clients in court.
In October 2001 she delivered the opening address at the Kortrijk Bar Association on the theme: “Building plot for sale + house built to your requirements: a valid marriage?” having won the Kortrijk Advocacy Competition in 1995 as well as the Flemish Pleitjuweel prize for moot court advocacy.
