Chris Declerck
Chris Declerck graduated with a Masters degree in law from the University of Ghent on 4 July 1975 and was called to the bar in the judicial district of Kortrijk on 1 October of that year. He was a founding partner of Declerck & Partners.
At Declerck Leterme Partners Chris mainly works in the field of company law, enterprises in difficulties, liquidation, bankruptcy and court settlements, arbitration, professional ethics and disciplinary codes for architects and lawyers. He advises shareholders and directors on the conduct of complicated and delicate discussions and represents their interests in court using his extensive experience as a trial lawyer. He is regularly appointed as official receiver in bankruptcy cases by the Commercial Court of Kortrijk, acting both alone and as part of a team. The same Commercial Court frequently appoints him statutory auditor in cases of suspensions arising from court settlements. He also acts as a liquidator for companies and advises other liquidators.
Chris Declerck is a member of the Dutch Disciplinary board of appeal in Brussels, and was a member of the Belgian Federal Bar Council. From 1998 to 2003 he was treasurer and member of the 8-man governing body of the Flemish Bar Association, which represents the interests of the 8,000 Flemish lawyers in Belgium. From September 1988 to August 2000 he was a member of the Bar Association for the judicial district of Kortrijk. He is a member of the Associazione Internazionale Giuristi di Lingua Italiana (Milan) and was a director of the NPO Interprofessional Association of Lawyers, Accountants and Notaries, since its foundation on 13 July 1992 until 31 December 1997.
